What is Monofilament?
Monofilament is a type of yarn composed of a single chemical fiber filament.
Since it is made from one single filament, the fiber itself is equivalent to the yarn. To maintain its physical properties as a yarn, this type of fiber is relatively thick.
Characteristics of Monofilament?
1.High Strength
Multifilament consists of numerous fine fibers bundled together, while monofilament is made of a single thicker fiber. This difference is particularly noticeable in terms of abrasion resistance. Due to their thinness, multifilament fibers are prone to wear and breakage.
2 High Transparency
Multifilament is composed of multiple aggregated fibers. Even if each individual fiber is transparent, light cannot pass through in a straight line due to refraction and reflection between the filaments. Therefore, the entire yarn appears white despite the transparency of the individual fibers.
Applications of Monofilament?
1.Fisheries Industry
Used in fishing nets, fishing lines, etc. Fishing enthusiasts are typically familiar with nylon monofilament fishing lines.
2.Agriculture & Civil Engineering
Applied in fencing, artificial turf, ropes, nets, and similar products.
3.Daily Life
Utilized in zippers, wigs, brushes, insect screens, and racket strings. Monofilament with stiffness is ideal for wigs and brushes, and it is also commonly used to make racket strings for tennis or badminton players.
4.Industrial Sector
Employed in filter cloths, canvas, conveyor belts, and other industrial materials.
5.Apparel & Medical Fields
Also used as surgical sutures.
